First Cycle Trying After Years of Birth Control!

My husband and I decided to go off the pill in November, waited a month, and then started trying. I wanted to figure out my normal cycle length first, since I've been on the pill for over 10 years. (Luckily my natural cycle started almost right on time--only 2 days late.) Before we started trying, I did a ton of research online, and that convinced me that it would take me at least 9 months to get pregnant since I'm 32 and my husband is 34. All these years they basically teach you that you can get pregnant if someone winks at you wrong, only to find out it takes a loooong time and a lot of trying, especially when you're older. Imagine my surprise when I got my BFP after only 1 cycle! Here's the breakdown:

10 dpo: BFN (of course)
11 dpo: Kind of think I see a line, but its not appearing until after the 3-minute window.
12 dpo: Definitely a line (on all 3 tests!), but it's still taking longer than 3 minutes to show. Must go buy expensive digital. Hold pee for 4 hours (yikes!), test........BFP!

I really had no symptoms until 12 or 13 dpo, and its only been cramping and bloating (just like before your period starts), otherwise I do not feel pregnant. Had some bleeding (brown, old blood) 15 dpo and pretty bad cramping so got progesterone and hcg checked. All is well, no more blood, and cramping is letting up. I'm now 17 dpo (4 weeks and 3 days pregnant!).

I just wanted to share my story so other "older" gals don't get discouraged. It CAN happen quickly! I've been lucky with regular cycles, even before the pill, and when it was time to start trying, I got very familiar with my cervical mucus and used an OPK, testing every 12 hours about 5 days before I thought I would ovulate. I got a neg the night of 1/5 and then a positive the morning of 1/6, which was then negative again that night. Short surge! We BD'd 12/31, 1/1, 1/3, 1/5, 1/6, 1/7. Pretty sure I O'd on 1/6. Basically BD'd until I didn't see EWCM anymore.

Hope you find this encouraging. Wish you all the best of luck and hope that your 2WW goes by fast!
